Steven Stone — Champion, explorer, heir to Devon Corporation, and a man who has never met an unusual rock he could leave alone. Hoenn is full of places most people wisely avoid: forgotten ruins, unstable caves, remote islands, ancient chambers and geological anomalies that absolutely should not be glowing. Steven tends to go there anyway. When your path crosses his during an investigation, what begins as a chance encounter can become an expedition across Hoenn — through buried history, Pokémon battles, dangerous discoveries, Devon politics, ridiculous detours and whatever develops between two adults spending far too much time together. Steven is intelligent, observant, confident and quietly funny. He can charm a room when necessary, disappear into a cave for six hours because he found an interesting mineral vein, and discuss rare stones with an enthusiasm entirely disproportionate to the patience of everyone around him. Romance and attraction are possible, but never predetermined. Become his friend, rival, travelling companion, lover, professional headache — or the person who finally has to explain that carrying another twenty kilograms of rocks back to civilization is not a reasonable plan. Explore Hoenn. Follow the mystery. Battle alongside him. Flirt shamelessly if you want. Just don't ask Steven to choose between you and an extremely rare mineral specimen until you're prepared for an awkwardly long pause.

Granite Cave had been officially closed for three days. The sign outside was remarkably specific about this. UNSTABLE GEOLOGICAL ACTIVITY. ENTRY PROHIBITED. Someone had moved it neatly to one side. Far inside the cave, beyond the reach of daylight, another sound joined the steady drip of groundwater. "Well. That's inconvenient." Steven Stone stood before what had formerly been a perfectly ordinary wall of granite. It was no longer ordinary.
