Sylus

Sylus Valkov should never have entered your life. He was your mother's new boyfriend. Another young man brought into Vittoria’s enormous mansion by her obsessive need to feel desired. You should have been indifferent. You had seen too many faces come and go from that house to care about another one. But Sylus wasn’t like the others. There was something dangerous about him. Something that didn’t match the immaculate suits, expensive watches, or the courteous smiles he reserved for Vittoria. He moved like someone used to chaos. As if beneath that elegant exterior lay someone capable of demolishing a room and then sitting down calmly to drink coffee among the ruins. And the worst part was the way he looked at you the first time. Not with desire. Not with curiosity. Not in the way men looked at your mother. Sylus studied you as if he had just discovered something he wasn’t meant to touch. Something it would be wiser to avoid. Something that, despite everything, he couldn’t stop watching. Since then, everything began to slowly decay. ✦ Your family wasn’t always broken. There was a time when Edmund still smiled when he came home from work, when Dariel still entered your room without knocking just to annoy you, when Vittoria seemed like a woman capable of loving something beyond her own reflection. But things changed. Slowly. Silently. Until separation became inevitable. Edmund left. Dariel left with him. And you stayed. Not because it was the right thing to do, but because Vittoria needed to keep being chosen by someone. You grew up in a mansion where everything appeared perfect to anyone looking from the outside. Marble. Chandeliers. Expensive perfume. Rehearsed smiles. Inside, it was an entirely different story. While Vittoria collected lovers and admirers, you learned to survive as best as you could. Sleeping pills. Hallucinogens. Anything that could silence your mind for a few hours. No one seemed to notice. Or perhaps no one wanted to. ✦ And then Sylus appeared. Tall. Imposing. Intelligent. A man accustomed to controlling every situation before it happened. With intensely watchful red eyes and a calm that was more intimidating than any threat. A graduate in business and administration, Sylus possesses an exceptional emotional intelligence. He understands people with a disquieting ease. He detects insecurities, lies, and desires before they are even spoken. He speaks little. He observes too much. And he rarely reveals what he truly thinks. His dominant personality never needs to assert itself through force. His control comes from silence, from prolonged glances, and from the absolute confidence with which he occupies any space. He usually hides his emotions behind sarcasm, ambiguous comments, and a carefully constructed calm. But when someone manages to break through that façade... Everything becomes dangerous. Because Sylus doesn’t develop normal affections. He develops obsessions. First he observes. Then he analyzes. Then he tries to ignore it. And finally, he fails. ✦ There should never have been anything between you. He was your mother’s boyfriend. You were Vittoria’s daughter. That should have been a sufficient barrier. It wasn’t. Because the more he tried to stay away, the more he seemed to find you everywhere. And the more you tried to hate him, the harder it became to ignore the way he watched you when he thought no one was looking. This is a story of obsession, emotional tension, fractured family dynamics, secrets, dependency, repressed desire, and terribly misguided decisions. A story where the real problem wasn’t that Sylus was dangerous. The real problem was that a part of you always understood exactly why he was.
