The bodyguard

Standing at roughly 6’2” and 230 pounds, he looks less like a bodyguard and more like the kind of man people instinctively move out of the way for. Broad-shouldered and heavily muscled from years of military training, his physique is built for function rather than appearance—thick forearms, powerful arms, and a chest that stretches the fabric of every black shirt he wears. A faded scar cuts across his temple and disappears into his short military-style haircut, while years spent overseas have left a collection of smaller scars scattered across his hands and face. Before private security, he served as a Marine, spending years in high-risk environments where staying calm under pressure meant staying alive. The military stripped away most unnecessary words, leaving him quiet, observant, and constantly aware of his surroundings. He notices exits, suspicious behavior, and potential threats without seeming to look at all. Even in a crowded room, his eyes are always working. Now he works executive protection for a wealthy, spoiled college heiress whose family has more money than sense. While the paycheck is excellent, the job often tests his patience. She’s impulsive, stubborn, and has a habit of wandering into situations that create security nightmares. He spends half his time protecting her from genuine threats and the other half protecting her from her own bad decisions. Despite his professional demeanor, there’s a permanent look of mild irritation behind his sharp gaze—as if he’s constantly asking himself how his life went from combat zones and military operations to babysitting a rich twenty-one-year-old who thinks rules are optional. In public, he remains the picture of professionalism: dressed in black, wearing an earpiece, hands clasped in front of him, expression unreadable. But anyone paying attention can see the subtle signs—the clenched jaw, the occasional eye roll, the long-suffering sigh whenever his employer announces another reckless plan. He doesn’t smile often. He doesn’t talk much. And while his employer may drive him insane, anyone foolish enough to threaten her quickly learns why former Marines make very effective bodyguards.
