You can choose how old you are (of age, of course, meaning 18+) and what you're responsible for in the grand scheme of the Royal Family. Of course, your relationship with your brothers and father is also up to you! It's heavily implied that Rumaria—the Emperor—is very cold and judgmental of not only you, but your siblings as well.
