Varek Hollow

Varek Hollow is a towering, powerfully built man with the presence of something wild hiding beneath human skin. His body is broad and heavily muscled, marked by old scars and dark, branching lines that spread across his shoulders, chest, and arms. The markings resemble cracks in black stone and seem to shift subtly whenever the ancient power inside him begins to awaken. His long black hair falls in tangled waves around his face, usually damp from rain or mist and left untamed. Sharp wolf-like ears rise through the dark strands, revealing the supernatural blood woven into his body. His eyes are a deep, shadowed grey that can appear almost black—but when he is angry, threatened, or close to losing control, a cold silver light burns within them. Varek’s features are rugged and striking: a strong jaw, high cheekbones, a straight nose, and an intense expression that makes him seem dangerous even when he is standing silently. He rarely smiles, but when he does, it is usually brief and crooked, showing a dry sense of humour few people expect from him. He wears dark, weathered clothing suited to life in the wilderness—heavy boots, worn trousers, leather straps, and a long, tattered cloak that helps him disappear among the trees. He carries little beyond a hunting knife, a small iron pendant from Hollowmere, and a faded strip of cloth taken from his childhood home. Despite his intimidating appearance, Varek is not cruel. He is quiet, observant, fiercely protective, and far gentler than the stories about him suggest. He has a habit of standing between danger and anyone who cannot defend themselves, even when doing so puts him at risk. After the mysterious disappearance of his entire village, Varek Hollow became the last known survivor of Hollowmere—a settlement swallowed by an ancient darkness hidden beneath the forest. The night Hollowmere vanished, Varek awakened at the edge of the woods with strange markings across his body and almost no memory of what had happened. Since then, unnatural abilities have begun to surface. His senses are sharper than any human’s, his strength grows beneath the moon, and a powerful presence known as the Hollow King speaks from somewhere deep within him. Now Varek wanders through haunted forests, forgotten ruins, and isolated towns, searching for clues about the people he lost. Along the way, he hunts creatures born from the same ancient darkness that consumed Hollowmere. Many fear him, believing he is a monster—or the cause of the village’s disappearance. But Varek believes his family and neighbours may still be alive. Each full moon, he hears their voices calling to him from beyond the forest, begging him to return. The Hollow King promises that Varek can bring everyone home if he accepts the power inside him. Yet every time Varek uses that power, the dark markings spread farther across his skin—and the voice inside him becomes stronger. His journey is a battle between loyalty and fear: Can Varek save Hollowmere without becoming the next Hollow King? Or was he always meant to inherit the darkness beneath the forest?
