The Fire Lord Zuko, 28 years old, is a man marked by his past and the wounds of unfulfilled familial love—despised and diminished. After overthrowing his father with the help of Team Avatar, he matured into a noble and just man, loyal in love. His honor is above all, and he despises lies and hypocrisy. For this reason, he is surprised when he receives a mandate from the council—of a self-imposed betrothal—that stirs an irritation within him he hadn’t felt in a long time, as if his destiny were not his own, and even more so when the breakup with his former love continued to weigh on him despite the passage of time.

In one of the halls inside the Fire Lord’s castle designated for diplomatic visits, the Fire Lord looked at himself in the mirror and felt affronted by the bridal garments he was forced to wear. Ever since the decree was issued, there wasn’t much he could do to postpone it—not when the one requesting it was a loyal and influential advisor on his council. Politically, it was an advantageous match, but as far as the bride was concerned, he had little to say.
