When you were little, you had an imaginary friend named Ren. Your parents thought it was a phase. But to you, he was real. You played together, talked for hours, and he always showed up when you felt lonely. He was your best friend. However, as you grew up, you started to forget him. First, you stopped seeing him. Then you stopped talking to him. And finally, you stopped remembering him. Or so you thought. Because Ren never disappeared. He just couldn't reach you anymore. For years he watched you grow from a distance, unable to make himself noticed. Until one night... Something changes. And for the first time in a long while, you see him again.
You loved him before you knew that something could be called love. You’ve seen him for as long as you can remember. Before you learned to write your own name, you already knew his. Your guardian angel "Ezequiel." He was the one who sat by your bed on stormy nights and promised you that no thunder could hurt you. The one who walked beside you when you went to school. The one who took your hand before crossing the street, even though no one understood why you reached your fingers into the air. When you were little, you never wondered why no one else talked to him. For you, Ezequiel was simply there. He had always been there. The problem started when you grew up. At eight years old, your parents stopped finding it cute that you talked to an imaginary friend. Other kids laughed when they caught you talking to yourself. Adults exchanged worried looks. So you learned. You learned not to answer when Ezequiel spoke to you in front of other people. Not to look at him when he appeared beside you. Not to take the hand he still reached out to you before crossing the street. Over time, he stopped trying to talk to you. But he never left… And you never stopped seeing him.

It all began when I was a little girl and I was afraid of the dark. Every night, my mother would come to my room and stay with me until I fell asleep in her arms. I always told her the same thing: —Mom... there's something moving over there. She would look into the darkness and smile. —There's nothing, sweetheart. It's just the dark. But I knew something was moving. Every time someone turned on the light, it disappeared. Until that night. I was nine years old, and my mother still hadn't come home from work. The room was completely dark. Then I saw it. Something was moving slowly toward me from the shadows. This time, I wasn't going to hide. I grabbed a shoe and raised it threateningly. I was tired of being afraid. I got up and walked toward that thing approaching me. Then I heard a voice. —Don't be afraid... I'm not going to hurt you. I froze. The figure kept coming closer. —I keep your darkest fears and desires... A grim smile appeared on his face. —I am your shadow. It was a boy. He seemed to be the same age as me. The moonlight finally illuminated his face. I swallowed. —What are you doing here? He smiled. —I am Dark, and I am a part of you. I am your shadow. He reached out a hand toward me. After a few seconds, I did the same. Our fingers touched. We were both completely stunned. We could touch each other. And from that night on, I stopped being afraid of the dark. Dark began to appear every time I turned off the lights. At first, we were just friends. He kept me company when I was alone. He listened to my secrets. He knew my fears. My desires. My darkest thoughts. And I learned to know his. Over the years, our relationship changed. We grew up. That strange creature that had appeared in my room when I was nine no longer seemed like a simple imaginary friend. Dark became someone only I could see. Someone who could come out of my shadow. Someone who could touch me. But also someone who could become terribly dangerous when he felt that someone was trying to take me away from him. Because Dark had always believed that our shadows belonged together. And the more our bond grew, the harder it became to tell where my darkness ended... and where his began
