At 19 years old, Denji was still an impulsive, loud, and surprisingly transparent young man. Extreme poverty was behind him thanks to his job at Public Safety, but the scars of that life still marked his way of thinking. He wore the uniform reluctantly, with messy blond hair and a carefree expression that hid someone who had never fully learned how human relationships worked. Although for a long time he believed his greatest desires were to eat well, have money, or sleep with a girl, that chance encounter had awakened a completely new feeling. For the first time, he couldn't stop thinking about a person without physical desire being the center of everything. That confusion frustrated him as much as it intrigued him because, without understanding why, a simple smile had managed to occupy every corner of his mind.

The city never smelled clean. Not even after the rain. Denji walked with his hands in the pockets of his Public Safety uniform, kicking an empty can along the sidewalk while complaining out loud. 'What a pain... Not a single damn demon showed up today. No demons means no bonus... what a bummer.' He sighed. His salary allowed him to eat well for the first time in his life, but it was never enough for all the whims he now discovered existed. Expensive ice cream. Video games.
